As a Clinical Neuropsychologist who has been helping patients for more than fifteen years, if I can’t help you, I will do my best to find someone who can.
My areas of specialty include but are not limited to Traumatic Brain Injury, Dementia, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I am also adept at evaluating mental illness among children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics through psychological and/or neuropsychological testing and in-depth clinical interview. After completion of the assessment process, we will meet for feedback and treatment planning. Many patients find testing and diagnosis to be a therapeutic experience of sorts. Understanding why you are the way you are is often the crux of therapy. This moment of enlightenment may or may not require testing.
After a treatment plan has been put in place, should one decide to pursue therapy with me, they will find my theoretical orientation to be psychodynamic in nature. In layman’s terms, this simply means that I focus on building an environment of trust and creating a safe place for patients to unpack whatever they may need to leave behind in order to move forward into their best future. I make use of various therapeutic strategies that have been found to work whether they are cognitive, behavioral, relational, rational-emotive, or simply common sense. Regardless of which therapeutic strategy I might utilize, I am always operating with a psychodynamic foundation in an effort to create a safe space and a “good enough” attachment for my patients.
If you or I determine I am not the right therapist for you, I will do my best to help you find the right therapist. We have many options right here at Cogito, and I have developed an extensive network of relationships with mental health professionals in the Wiregrass Community since my move back to this area in 2009.
